Maine Trip - July 2023

It was a time to visit Maine again, it was third time. Summer is the best time to visit this state and enjoy the water and cold beer. Fresh Seafood is always good in any season here.

We rented a beach house from our past experiences of super convenience to enjoy the sand and sea. Coffee with the view!

This beach was super cool with huge palm size shells, big waves and very close to a creek where we enjoyed the backwater to the fullest including Baba.

The house was in also close proximity with Portland and we could enjoy the very famous breweries, city vibes and amazingly beautiful water side parks.

First two days were raining and it worked out very good for us, being cozy in the little condo after Shri's long trip from India and my crazy schedule during his absence. Jai enjoyed the lobster rolls and Ram enjoyed the local burger.

Third day kids went to Children's museum while we there spent time at brewery as per Jai's suggestion and after that roamed around the waterside park. In the afternoon we all ate along waterside park from Food Trucks, Mediterranean and Vietnamese food turned out very yummy as compared to  Chinese food in the downtown Portland.

After eating we headed to explore Cape Elizabeth. First stop was the lighthouse. The park is huge and multiple trails with outstanding views. Then it was time for some ice cream so we headed to a creamery. They gave huge portions but it was ok.

Fourth day we started our day by visiting famous Portland potato donuts. They were absolutely delicious with very very unique flavors but they were super expensive, I guess that’s why. We did the mini golf in the afternoon which was Pirate themed, kids enjoyed it a lot and of course we too. In the night we dropped Ram in Lowell to go back to his job.

Fifth day we started the day by visiting beach and enjoying the big waves…finally got vitamin Sea while Shri was doing his work. We ate dosa for lunch. Me and Jai found an awesome creamery in the afternoon, I ate ice cream like crazy. This was the best ice cream I ever had, we got lots from this creamery on the way back home!! On the way from ice cream we found a local grocery store, me and Jai enjoyed local shopping there. Beer cave was the coolest thing I saw there. We shopped a lot of local things and came home. In the evening I booked a contemporary restaurant, food was mind blowing. Locally grown mushroom pizza with arugula and Brussel sprouts  were perfect with Allagash white, local brew. Then we headed to Portland to see the beautiful firework over water. We didn’t get the parking closer so we just watched from a hill. Baba enjoyed these fireworks a lot.

Sixth day me, Jai and Baba went to water park which had very unique rides. I enjoyed my time with Jai a lot. Some scary rides he encouraged me to try and also taught me, how to land in water properly. We enjoyed all the rides multiple times. At the end Baba went in wave pool with Jai and me, I saw the happiness on his face. Me and Shri took an early evening nap on the hot sand, it was incredibly relaxing. In the evening we headed to the ice cream place so Shri and Baba also enjoy it. Dinner we decided to do at a Seafood shack which serves fresh seafood and very famous in the area. Baba enjoyed the onion rings. Haddock was very fresh and enjoyed again with Allagash white!

In the night me and Shri went to beach to watch moon rise. We waited and it was more than 3mins that moon didn’t come so we were little sad but suddenly straight from our seat from the sea red moon rose and we were just stunner. This was something we never saw before. We see moon rise from our bed room window during certain time of the year but never saw red one. This looked like a very different planet. We stayed a long time there, was not willing to go home. As the time was passing it was becoming bigger and bigger. The beach which was full of hundreds of people during day, we were only two people on the beach. This was super serene….just me, Shri and red moon over the Sea!! "Sab kuch jaise tum gaya"  Another amazing day!!

Seventh day which was Friday started our day by watching sun rise at 5:07am. Sun rise was very clear and different than Cape May experience, Sun was pink when it rose.  I also did Surya Namaskar to rising sun on the beach. We came back and slept for a while :) I did my morning beach walk, this time walked till creek. I was super happy to see the stream going in the water. While walking someone said your outfit is very cute while I was in my 'Sea Loop'. I crossed an old man 3-4 times in this week and we used to smile at each other. Today he stopped and said "This is great right? You can not explain this experience in words to anyone, just feel it!!" I nodded….Once I reached the stream, sat along water with my feet soaking in water. Another lady came and said you look very happy and calm, can I take your picture.

In the afternoon we all went to creek side beach and enjoyed both beach and creek. Baba enjoyed the water too and went all by himself. Jai enjoyed the water and cliff jumps a lot. After tons of fun in water we came home took shower and took some rest to be ready for exciting evening in the Portland downtown.

I booked a waterside seafood restaurant. We got the street parking and started walking towards the restaurant. The table had water view with big windows. Food was amazing…Maine blueberry salad rocked! I also like Maine mule and fried haddock bites, very fresh. Jais lobster roll and Baba's veggie burger was moth watering. We all enjoyed the dinner. After dinner we strolled in downtown. Jai bought this handmade clay chicken, the shop was full of hand made things which were super cool.

Saturday was final day here. We woke and walked couple of hours on the beach, then wrapped up and headed home. On the way stopped in Worchester for lunch, the Thai restaurant served us delicious food.

It was a very relaxing, wonderful trip! A trip to remember with my four boys!!

Canadian Rockies - Day 1 - Waking Up to the Magic of Canmore and the Rockies

After a late-night arrival at around 2 AM, we finally woke up to our first morning in the Canadian Rockies - and what a surprise it was! Since we had reached in the dark, we had no idea what surrounded us. When I stepped out onto the balcony, I was greeted by a breathtaking view - majestic mountains all around, their peaks kissed by the early morning light. It was one of those moments that instantly fills you with gratitude and excitement for the day ahead. We had masala tea, got ready, and decided to explore downtown Canmore. The streets were charming, lined with cozy cafés, boutiques, and local art shops - all against the stunning mountain backdrop. It felt like stepping into a postcard. For brunch, we stopped at an amazing Indian restaurant called Mumbai Local, and oh my goodness - the food was phenomenal! We ordered dahi puri, soya chaap, and triple schezwan fried rice, and everything was bursting with flavor. It felt like a comforting taste of home right in the middle of the Rocki...

Canadian Rockies - Day 2 - The Dream Day: Larch Valley Hike & Moraine Lake Magic

We started our second day in the Canadian Rockies with our little tradition — a steaming cup of masala tea. There’s nothing like that comforting aroma to kick off an adventurous morning. While sipping our tea, we had a great chat with our wonderful host, Jeremy -  a biker, traveler, and author of two books. He’s been around the world on his bike, and listening to his stories was truly inspiring. After breakfast, it was time for one of the most anticipated parts of our trip - the Larch Valley hike and visiting my dream destination, Moraine Lake! We grabbed some Subway sandwiches from Banff downtown to fuel up later on the trail and then headed toward Moraine Lake by shuttle. We started the hike around 12:30 PM, and wow — it was steep and challenging right from the beginning. But every step upward brought more breathtaking views of Moraine Lake below. The turquoise water kept peeking through the trees as we climbed higher and higher. As we gained elevation, the larches turned gold...

Canadian Rockies - Day 0 – Arrival in Calgary

Saturday morning finally arrived — the day I’d been waiting for so long! My big-time bucket list adventure to see the snow-capped mountains, turquoise blue lakes, and breathtaking hikes of the Canadian Rockies was about to begin. We woke up excited and buzzing with energy. I wrapped up the packing, made some food for the kids, and after a quick meal, we were ready to roll. By 2 PM, we were off to the airport from Boston. Everything went so smoothly — hardly any crowds, we were among the first ones to check in, and soon we were relaxing in the lounge before boarding. The flight itself was peaceful. The Wi-Fi worked surprisingly well, so we caught up on some browsing before drifting off to sleep midair, dreaming of mountains and alpine lakes. We landed around midnight, and after picking up our luggage, we headed to the car rental counter. The lady there was super nice — she even shared some great local tips on restaurants and must-visit spots. To top it off, she handed us the keys to a b...
